Altamana was founded in 2012 by two pioneers of the Argentinian wine industry, Count Patrick d’Aulan, owner of Alta Vista, and famed Bordeaux winemaker Didier Debono. The two Frenchmen used their combined expertise and experience in developing the single vineyard concept in Argentina, to resurrect century-old Malbec vineyards planted in the Maule Valley, Chile.
In order to find the very best vineyard sites and locations, Patrick and Didier teamed up with two well-established growers from the Maule Valley, Jose Manuel Donoso and Laurent Teillet and the team spent five years mapping the region. Located between the Pacific Ocean and the Andes Mountains, Altamana’s vineyards benefit from cool nights and are protected from excessive heat, ideal for producing pure and vibrant wines.
In addition to optimum location, the Altamana vineyards are also over 60 years old, providing low yields and superb quality fruit. Careful viticulture and winemaking by the Altamana technical team create elegant and very unique 100% Malbec wines that reveal the great potential and true character of the terroir of Southern Chile.
