Producer Summary:Bodegas Franco-Españolas was founded by Frederick Anglade Saurat, a native of Bordeaux, in 1890, at a time when the French came to the region to replace their vineyards devastated by phylloxera. In 1920, fifteen years after Anglade’s death, the French sold their shares and the winery became wholly Spanish. Borja Eguizábal assumed management in 2016, giving way to the third generation of the Eguizábal family as owners of the winery. Its privileged location, on the banks of the Ebro River, has made Bodegas Franco-Españolas a witness to the history of Logroño. In the hands of the Eguizábal Family since 1984, it is currently immersed in new projects and is a benchmark among the leisure and cultural offer of La Rioja.
Short Tasting Note:Intense and rich, with red cherry and blackberry, complimented by subtle resinous and spicy notes. Smooth and velvety texture on the palate. Broad and intense, with a persistent finish.
Long Tasting Note:This Rioja is made from Tempranillo grapes sourced from the three sub-regions of Rioja; Rioja Alta, Alavesa and Oriental. The wine is matured in American and French oak barrels of light to heavy toast for a minimum of 18 months. Dark ruby red with deep brick-coloured hues. Intense and rich, with red cherry and blackberry, complimented by subtle resinous and spicy notes. Smooth and velvety texture on the palate. Broad and intense, with a persistent finish.
