Bacalhôa Wines, which was founded in 1922 under the designation João Pires & Sons, has developed over the years into one of the most innovative wine producers in Portugal today.
The company started out in wine production using grapes from the Palmela region. It was during the 1970's that a new driving force turned the company around, through the introduction of the latest modern technologies, both in terms of viticulture and oenology. This brought Bacalhôa Wines to the forefront of quality winemaking in Portugal.
"Art, Wine and Passion" has been the theme across the various estates and has superseded all expectations. This project has combined the whole viticultural process- both traditional and modern- with a wide variety of art exhibitions, from painting to sculpture, not forgetting magnificent masterpieces of nature.
Bacalhôa is our longest serving supplier, and after almost 40 years of partnership, we are still hugely impressed by the quality of their Setúbal and Alentejo wines. Their range includes outstanding still wines, and the multi trophy-winning Bacalhôa Moscatel de Setúbal.
