Producers

Vinos Lautaro

Located in Chile’s Curico valley, the Sagrada Familia company was established in 1997 when sixteen small-scale grape producers formed a co-operative boutique winery, incorporating a total of 180 hectares of vineyards.

Before this, the growers sold their crops to intermediaries, without any possibility of negotiating prices or payment terms. They did not have access to electricity or drinking water, and their children had no possibility of higher education. By operating as an association, better prices were obtained meaning higher incomes for growers and their families.

Now a Fairtrade enterprise, the association has grown over the years whilst remaining committed to producing high-quality wines and promoting the social and economic development of the community.

The funds raised by the Fairtrade price and premium have greatly improved access to healthcare and allowed for educational programmes as well as training, where environmental sustainability projects have been implemented. Support is also given to workers in cases of special need, for example, the rebuiliding of producers’ houses that were damaged during an earthquake.

The wines in our Pico a Pico range support this inspiring Fairtrade winery.
