Sherries in the Press

01 January 2019

We have had some excellent press coverage for our Sherries in 2018, here are some highlights:

Fiona Beckett recommends Williams & Humbert ‘As You Like It’ Amontillado in her article, 'Sweet sherry isn't just for grandma' -

"Medium sweet, gorgeously nutty: like liquid Christmas cake."

Fiona Beckett, The Guardian, 15 December 2018

'As You Like It' was also featured as one of Richard Esling's 'Twelve Wines of Christmas' -

"An expressive, nutty amontillado, with an agreeable medium sweet finish. Versatile enough to be an aperitif or an after-dinner tipple with muscatel raisins and mixed nuts."

Richard Elsing, ETC Magazine Sussex, 1 December 2018

In his article 'Sherry is amazing, you're just serving it all wrong", Will Lyons recommends Sanchez Romate Fino Perdido and Williams & Humbert Dos Cortados 20 YO Palo Cortado -

"Produced in the home of sherry, Jerez de la Frontera by Bodegas Sanchez Romate, this has a slightly fuller flavour that most finos and a distinctive yeasty, nutty character. Perfect for chilling, to be enjoyed ith tapas, salted nuts or grilled fresh sardiens on toast."

"Part fino, part oloroso, this intriguing palo cortado is fresh and rich, with a smoky nose and a savoury, dry mouthfeel. Serve it as the end of the evening with a cheeseboard and dried fruit."

Will Lyons, The Sunday Times, 14 October 2018

Cayetano del Pino Palo Cortado is featured as one of Terry Kirby's top twelve sherries in his article 'On the top flor' -

"Try also the ... excellent, elegant, Cayetano del Pino Palo Cortado."

Terry Kirby, The Independent, 6 October 2018

Sanchez Romaté Encontrado Oloroso is one of Andy Howard MWs 'Top 20 Sweet & Fortified Wines for Christmas’ -

"Available from 3 December: rush to get some, as only five butts of 600 litres were made. Encontrado means 'found' - literally this was discovered in the cellars at Sanchez Romate, and very kindly they have released it for sale. Enjoy this pungent, dry oloroso chock full of notes of zesty fruit, waxy aromas and textures, and deep, rich and satisfying nutty, savoury characters. Hugely complex and worth every penny.

Drink 2019-2024. Alc 20%"

Andy Howard, Decanter, 8 December 2018

During this year's International Sherry Week. James Viner mentions Williams & Humbert 12 YO Oloroso as one of his top two Spanish fortified wines -

"Dark, Nutty, Fragrant, Full-Bodied & Oxidative Oloroso Sherry.

Sherries are not vintage-dated in  the way that most wines are; instead, the oldest casks are habitually topped up with wine from younger casks to maintain a steady style. This is an aged, dry, dark and rich oloroso sherry, fortified with grape spirit to a  higher level of alcohol. Think  raisins, hazelnuts, dried figs and burnt/oxidised fruit flavours. Exceptional value."

James Viner, Times of Tonbridge, 10 October 2018
